MENTAL UNLOAD: SPECIAL ISSUE KUTI COMICS

Edited by board member Eszter Szép, the summer 2026 issue of Kuti addresses isolation and digital dependency: “Inspired by Donna Haraway, I invited artists to stay with the trouble: to explore ways out of isolation and addiction to our phones. I am really happy with how the issue turned out.” 

MENTAL UNLOAD explores ways of coping with a reality increasingly shaped by our phones and algorithms, bringing together comics that reflect on easing our minds, reconnecting with others, building hope, and imagining forms of resistance and change.

Mental Health: New Perspectives in Graphic Medicine and Life Writing

12 - 13 May 2026, KU Leuven

This symposium brings together leading scholars and practitioners to explore how comics and life writing engage with mental health and neurodivergence. With keynotes by Ian Williams and Helen Spandler, panels on gender, politics, pedagogy, disability, and artistic practice, and a roundtable on psychiatry, the event examines how comics can reshape mental health conversations.

This francophone roundtable, organised by Benoît Crucifix, explores how comics engage with mental health as a tool for representation, education, and awareness. Featuring Marjorie Bardiau, Charlotte Gosselin, Lucie Morel, Gabrielle Scantamburlo, and moderated by David Lombard, the event brings together artistic, psychiatric, and pedagogical perspectives to discuss the possibilities and limits of the medium.
